LPC Approval for 26 Bleecker Street

bkskarchitects

Founded in 1985, BKSK is a NYC-based firm specializing in design that is socially, contextually, and ecologically engaged.

The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission has appr The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved BKSK’s design for the office-to-residential conversion of 26 Bleecker Street in the NoHo East Historic District.

Built in 1900–1901 in the Classical Revival style, the building has accommodated a wide range of uses throughout its history, including clothing manufacturers, furriers, printers, and, most recently, the longtime headquarters of Planned Parenthood of New York City. The approved proposal adapts the historic structure for residential use while preserving its architectural character and contributing to the creation of much-needed housing.

As part of the project, BKSK’s design restores the building’s historic cornice and reactivates the ground-floor retail space, strengthening its presence on the streetscape and reinforcing the historic character of the neighborhood. The approval highlights the important role adaptive reuse can play in extending the life of historic buildings while helping meet New York City’s evolving needs. Stay tuned for further project updates!
